چکیده

Forensic speaker identification is one of the most important tasks dealt with in forensic phonetics. The usage of acoustic evidence increases and at the same time grows the necessity for easy-toapply and reliable methods. The method should be consistent and straight and should enable an expert to make identification decision with clearly determined probability. This paper is to outline the routine expert actions — the methods successfully used by expert group of STC over many years of everyday practice, discussions, studying and teaching. The description of one recent case serves as an example of a typical identification procedure.

Forensic Voice Comparisons in German with Phonetic and Automatic Features Using Vocalise Software

In this article, we present a novel forensic speaker recognition system that provides the capability to perform comparisons using both ‘traditional’ forensic phonetic parameters and ‘automatic’ spectral features in a semior fully automatic way. We evaluate this approach with simulated and real forensic case data in German, which ranges from high quality laboratory audio data to real telephone i...

The Application of a Bayesian Approach to Auditory Analysis in Forensic Speaker Identification

Research into auditory analysis in forensic speaker identification has attracted little attention, yet it is regarded as an essential component of forensic speaker identification. One possible reason for this lack of interest may be associated with the difficulty of knowing how to present the results of auditory analysis in a logical and quantifiable way. The use of likelihood ratios enables th...

Arranging a voice line-up in a foreign language

INTRODUCTION Speaker identification by lay witnesses is an area that is still relatively unexplored. The volume of empirical research in this field contrasts sharply and unfavourably with the wealth of work reported in the literature on human identification in the visual domain. Nor is it clear that the findings of eyewitness research are sufficiently well known in forensic phonetic circles, in...

Auditory-instrumental forensic speaker recognition

The most prominent part in forensic speech and audio processing is speaker recognition. In the world a number of approaches to forensic speaker recognition (FSR) have been developed, that are different in terms of technical procedures, methodology, instrumentation and also in terms of the probability scale on which the final conclusion is based. The BKA‘s approach to speaker recognition is a co...
